It
is with great pleasure we announce the publication in Late
November of our pattern
support in a book of 15 hand-knitting patterns by Di
Gilpin in Harris Yarns to be titled "Shorelines".
The book is a
compilation of designs reflecting contemporary Scotland. The colours of the yarns
providing the inspiration and blends reflecting moor, mountain, sea and shore.
There are 15
designs:
3- 4ply patterns...the wild rose collection...an
evening top and shawl and a cropped cardigan.
Aran tweed patterns include a man's gansey, 2 multi-coloured
jackets, a herringbone skirt in 2 lengths, and reeds scarf and
poncho and the Jazz jacket and Caspian jacket.
DK patterns
include a jumper and dress (Gaudi), an intarsia jacket inspired by
Sonia Delaunay, a cropped jacket in many colours and a
simple moss stitch jacket.
Chunky
patterns include a beach coat and a mans jumper and jacket.
The book
starts from the 'blending room' at the mill on the Isle of Lewis where
each colour scheme is 'blown' together like candyfloss to the
finished garment seen in the most contemporary of settings. It is a
fresh and innovative look at knitting and design, creativity and
colour.
Central is the theme of Scotland past and present; of people and
ideas dispersed across the world and remixing in a modern Scotland
of different cultures and ideas but still rooted in its historical
context. The Shoreline is the point of departure and arrival of
influences and of people. The colours reflecting the
continuing tradition of of the Isles and the country.
